Stroke by Stroke

Our philosophy is based on the principle of consistent progression. We instil a technique and mindset to provide the skills and knowledge that allows continued improvement, stroke by stroke, metre by metre, mile by mile, swim by swim.

An understanding of why we are doing something provides us with a long term platform for improvement.
We aim to share our vast experiences to help swimmers of all abilities develop their ability and confidence in the open water.

Whether you want to improve technique, swim faster, swim for longer or simply make swimming easier and more enjoyable, consistent progression is the best way to get there.

A mantra well used in the channel swimming community is “swim to the next feed”. As long as you keep doing that you will reach your goal. This could be to land on French shores or another ambition you have. Whatever your goals are, if you keep hitting your targets along the way you will achieve them in the end.

Booked a session with Graham at Chollerford after wanting some safety advice on where to enter/also just general info about swimming there to give me and my friend more options than Tyne Green. Really good info shared in the session, but also links and websites provided afterwards that were super helpful. My friend isn’t a strong swimmer so Graham spent time giving her pointers to try and build her front crawl technique before the two of us headed up the river. He gave me breathing tips to try and improve my technique along the way. Far more comfortable to return to Chollerford to swim there in future now, which is exactly what we wanted! I’m sure both me and my friend will be practicing the tips shared as soon as we’re back in the water (we’re soft ‘fair weather’ swimmers 😂). Will also deffo be looking out for upcoming groups

I have been involved with swimming and remained passionate about the sport for most of my life. Starting as a learner and then competitive swimmer at Consett ASC, then returning as a masters swimmer, coach and committee member at the club I owe so much to. I still swim and serve on a committee at the club alongside my real passion, open water swimming.

Open water swimming has given me so much in the way of challenges, friendships and travel and has shaped my life since I began on this journey. I enjoy nothing more than helping other swimmers to enjoy the sport and achieve their goals.
